How to Build a Model Volcano
VOLCANO Build**You will also need 1 empty 25oz. plastic bottle.
EASY – dirt/clay
- Build a mound of dirt up around the bottle, keeping the top open.
MORE TIME – paper mache (construction paper, old cookie sheet, newspaper, flour, water, tape, brown paint or spraypaint)
- Take two pieces of construction paper. Make two cones
- Insert cones one over the other and tape to bottle in shape of volcano
- Tape cones and bottle to cookie sheet – so it stands upright without falling over from slight pressure
- Mix flour+water paste (1 part flour, 2 parts water)
- Slice newspaper into strips
- Dip the strips in glue and wrap the volcano
- Let dry
- Day 2 – paint volcano (use multiple coats of spraypaint for repeated volcano use)
LAVA Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon liquid dishwashing soap
- 3 drops red food coloring
- 1 cup vinegar
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons baking soda
LAVA Directions
- Combine the soap and food coloring in the bottle.
- Add vinegar and pour in water almost to the top.
- In a small measuring cup, blend the baking soda with a little tap water to moisten it
Quickly pour into the bottle.
